Owning the Audit Process

This spring has been the season of audits for UMC as we have undergone certification audits as well as customer audits within the past several months, including the AS9100 recertification and ISO 13485 surveillance audits. While many companies bring in consultants to help them with the audit process, UMC has built an internal system and procedures to handle all of our audits.

We feel it’s important for us to not only pass, but to be experts and advisors on the process so we can bring more information, ideas, and value to our customers. We have nine employees who are certified lead auditors, a culture built around constant quality improvement, and processes that are documented and reviewed consistently. All of this makes most audits very smooth at UMC, but we always learn something new when we go through recertification and we take every opportunity to make the improvements so that the next audit goes even better.

To us, audits and certifications are tools that make us stronger leaders who are better equipped to ensure everything we do is compliant and consistent with best practices.

We feel it’s important for us to not only pass, but to be experts and advisors on the process so we can bring more information, ideas, and value to our customers.
