Youth Skills Training (YST) Apprentice

Job Summary

The YST Apprentice works in numerous areas of the company learning how each department interacts within the company. The Apprentice may shadow in the departments of Engineering, Programing, Machining, Finishing, Quality, Maintenance and Sales. Learning machines, systems, and processes within each area. Observes and/or performs hands on work based on mentor’s comfort level on apprentice’s comprehension of safety, quality, and demonstrated good work ethics to perform tasks.

Essential Functions

The primary duties and responsibilities of the YST Apprentice consist of but are not limited to:

  • Performs assigned tasks from mentor safely with good quality ratings and reasonable productivity output
  • Good communication with Training Specialist on current grades, work status, and scheduling conflicts with school, activities and work
  • Work with department manager and mentors on how to operate various machines, use systems and follow processes in a variety of areas throughout the organization
  • Exhibit a working knowledge of health and safety, responsible for safety awareness, while upholding and improving the culture of safety within the organization. Identify opportunities for improvement and take action if appropriate, before a problem occurs. Report potential hazards, unsafe working conditions, unsafe equipment, unsafe acts, and injuries immediately
  • Other tasks as assigned


  • A current student of an accredited school
  • Good academic standing
  • Displays strong mechanical aptitude, cultural adeptness, willingness to learn/grow within the company


  • Good communication skills both verbal and written
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Must be able in a team environment
  • Proficient use of computers
