Maintenance Technician

Job Summary

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain production and facility equipment according to safety, predictive and productive maintenance systems and processes to support the achievement of the site’s business goals and objectives.

Essential Functions

The primary duties and responsibilities of the Maintenance Technician consist of but are not limited to:

  • Keep CNC and mechanical equipment in operating condition
  • Diagnose equipment failures, effecting repairs, and testing equipment to assure that failures have been corrected
  • Capturing reactive work order details, machine down time hours, and identifying failure trends to limit the amount of unplanned machine down times
  • Source parts and/or services on a priority basis as necessary to get critical equipment back into operation
  • Perform regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment and plant facilities and interact with machinists to assure PM’s are done completely, accurately and timely
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals, blueprints, catalogs and work orders to perform required maintenance and service
  • Flexibility on hours to perform maintenance and provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of equipment outside normal work schedule
  • Inspect buildings, machines, equipment, structures and materials to determine what to repair or replace
  • Repair and maintain equipment to use less energy; including motors, plumbing, electrical fixtures, heating and cooling systems
  • Replace old systems with new equipment to use less water and electricity
  • Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery
  • Install insulation to use less energy for heating and cooling
  • Install, monitor, operate, and maintain controls for efficient lighting, heating, and cooling. This includes automatic light switches and digital temperature controls
  • Assemble and install building components, such as boilers, insulation, plumbing, machinery, and equipment
  • Estimate costs of repairs, purchase supplies and parts from distributors or stores
  • Perform routine maintenance such as oiling equipment, clearing clogged drains
  • Fix roofs, windows, doors, and floors
  • Must be able to lift and move objects up to 75 pounds consistently with heavier weight necessary at times
  • Exhibit a working knowledge of health and safety, responsible for safety awareness, while upholding and improving the culture of safety within the organization.   Identify opportunities for improvement and take action if appropriate, before a problem occurs.  Report potential hazards, unsafe working conditions, unsafe equipment, unsafe acts, and injuries immediately
  • Other tasks as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum Requirements – High School diploma or equivalent
  • AA degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance preferred
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment in relation to machine and building service, rebuild, and repair
  • Demonstrated ability to meet customer deliveries and schedules

Accountabilities

  • Support and maintain all building and manufacturing needs for the entire company         
  • Display aggressiveness towards task completion to limit equipment downtimes
  • Report any detected faulty operations, defective material, and unusual situations to supervisor
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas

Authorities

  • Monitor and correct safety related concerns with co-workers or outside service providers
  • Instigate and direct repairs to capital equipment or facility with outside service providers

Competencies

  • Very strong organizational skills; ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be highly self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Demonstrated understanding of electrical/ electronics in relations to the manufacturing machinery
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills; ability to work well with people at all levels, skills necessary to inform all shop personnel of equipment failures and timelines on repairs to maintain production schedules
  • Strong sense of urgency
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to both work independently and in a team environment
