Director of Technical Sales

Job Summary

The Director of Technical Sales is responsible for the management, planning and implementing sales and marketing strategies. The Director of Technical Sales is responsible for setting short and long-term Sales and Marketing goals that are in line with the company’s goals and objectives.

Essential Functions

The primary duties and responsibilities of the Director of Technical Sales consist of but are not limited to:

  • Establishes individual management and departmental goals to attain the business objectives
  • Plans, directs, and coordinates the sales/marketing activities and resources to support company goals and objectives
  • Manages timelines and work priorities by allocating resources
  • Coaches and supports employee performance by providing timely feedback and conducting performance reviews
  • Develops and implements strategic marketing and sales plans, directs forecasting activities and sets performance goals to achieve company objectives
  • Oversees market research and adjusts marketing strategy to meet changing market and competitive conditions
  • Achieves sales and customer service objectives by identifying prospects and developing new and existing customers; implementing sales, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; identifying customer and industry trends; contributing information and recommendations to strategic plans
  • Monitors competitor products, sales and marketing activities
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with industry influencers and key strategic partners
  • Guides preparation of marketing activity reports
  • Directs market channel development activity by establishing sales territories, quotas, and goals
  • Meets with key clients, assisting sales representative with maintaining relationships and negotiating and closing deals
  • Reviews and analyzes key business performance metrics to measure effectiveness and improve performance
  • Exhibits a working knowledge of health and safety, responsible for safety awareness, while upholding and improving the culture of safety within the organization. Identify opportunities for improvement and take action if appropriate, before a problem occurs. Report potential hazards, unsafe working conditions, unsafe working conditions, unsafe equipment, unsafe acts, and injuries immediately
  • Other tasks as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum Requirement – High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Undergraduate degree in Marketing, Communications, Business Management, or related field preferred
  • 10+ years of experience working in marketing and sales with progressive managerial responsibilities
  • Master of Business Administration preferred
  • Previous contract manufacturing or machining exposure preferred
  • Previous experience working in CRM and ERP systems
  • Ability to travel, including air, frequently overnight – 10-15% for customer meetings, trade association meetings and industry-related events

Accountabilities

  • Works with a team to identify, develop and implement business processes in the areas of sales and marketing
  • Consistently evaluates departmental structure and talent to meet evolving business needs to achieve divisional and company goals
  • Engages in performance management activities that support business objectives and prepares for effective leadership succession within the division
  • Ensures effective communication, coaching, training and development opportunities for the sales and marketing departments
  • Ensures compliance with company standards including:  Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), UMC Core Values, the Quality Management System (QMS) and all customer compliance and regulatory expectations
  • Ensures compliance with rules, regulations and laws related to areas of responsibility
  • Represents the organization and acts as a brand ambassador at customer meetings, trade association meetings, various peer group associations and community/industry functions

  • Organize and structure teams to facilitate lean, efficient and effective performance of business operations to meet company objectives within the framework prescribed
  • Lead, manage and direct team
  • Identify, recruit, hire, coach and retain top talent to meet organizational needs within the established company policies and guidelines

  • Manages Department Budget
